Bypass "Timeout for sapstartsrv"

I am installing SAP Business One, 9.1 HANA, and during the Hana install I get the following error.

Installation failed

  error installing

       Cannot create Instance

             Cannot start sapstartsrv

Waiting fro sapstartsrv failed: timeout rached (120)

I was working with a consultant on Friday, and we had other issues, so we aborted.  He gave me instructions, and those other things are fixed.  We had this error on Friday, but he overcame it,and I don't remember how. My consultant will be unavailable for a week, and I thought I would proceed.

Can anyone shed some light or offer a suggestion.

Thank You,

Hi,

Did you check the RFC connections, partner profile and source system connections?

Hi Vidya,

What Maksim likely meant in his short hand message is that without you providing the code that you used, it is very unlikely anyone can help solve your problem.  Paste it in or provide it in Git or some other location so people can help you.  I would also suggest that you look around for the actual location of those files that are being reported as missing.

Help us to help you by providing sufficient information on your situation.  If you go to the Getting Started link at the top right of the page, there is a wealth of information on how to create good content, not just Discussions.  I would also suggest that you read the Rules of Engagement which will also help you get the most out of your SCN experiences.

Hi Martin Wagner,

The scn link http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-46493 said  "Service Contracts in SPS 05 are not supported at the moment by SAP".

I will try to figure out other way to do these CRM functions.

It’s important to manage customers.

If you get it, let me know.

Rodrigo

Hi Tamilvanan,

As you mentioned the fields are not available in standard table. In that case you can either choose standard table by appending the new fields or you can create new z-table too.

It depends on maintenance activities. if it is master data, you can prefer the Standard table itself. But make sure that, if we add the append structure in standard table, we need to create the screen for the newly added fields to create/edit the value in Standard T-code.

If the value is going to change continuously then you can choose Z-table itself. if the user is comfortable with Z-table, you can create the TMG and assign the tcode, user can maintain the entry. During report display, we can fetch the new field entries from Z-table based on condition.

Hello Luke,

The SAP note says to install SP6.

Unfortunatly, we can not get the upgrades at this point of time.

Our requirement is to set the following parameters to 'true'

remove360EvaluationDocsForInactiveUsers

removeCompletedDocsForInactiveUsers

removeInProgressDocsForInactiveUsers

The requiremnt is met by adding the parameters in CL_HRSFI_EMPL_DATA_WEB_SERVCE=>BUILD_UPSERT_REQUEST with an enhancement. This is working as charm.

Thanks,

Re: Improving device IO performance

Nowhere near enough info to make any definitive suggestions.

An assortment of comments/observations ...

- you mention having observed IO contention but we've got no details on where you saw this contention nor how you measured it; measured at the OS level? measured via MDA? where is the data showing the contention? which device(s) do you believe have contention?

- there's no context with the sysmon/diskio data; sampling period? what activity (OLTP? DSS? maintenance?) was going on at the time of the sampling? were these samples taken at the same time as your IO contention measurements (eg, if IO contention was observed @ 5:00 am, while sysmon was collected @ 12:00 pm, then the sysmon data is useless)? by itself (ie, without context) the sysmon data looks 'ok' to me

- I can't think of any cases where I've seen the size of a ASE device have any effect on performance; disk/IO performance usually relates to a) rate of IOs (ie, number of IOs per time period), b) type of IOs (read vs write), c) device configuration (ASE/directio vs ASE/dsync vs AIX/cio; filesystem(FS) vs raw; degradation due to FS journaling; raw disk vs RAID 1+0 vs RAID 5 vs ...; availability of FS/SAN cache; etc), d) ASE cache/pool configurations and e) problematic queries and/or poorly designed processes

- no mention of what changes you've made to your system based on past recommendations in these SAP forums, eg, did you address the AIX/cio issues as suggested in Increasing the size of the 128K memory pool ?

-----------

As for improving IO performance ... keeping in mind that at this point I have no idea a) if you have IO performance issues nor b) the root cause of any IO performance issues ...

- if IO performance degradation is noticed during specific database operations (eg, certain queries), it may be possible to tune said queries to reduce their IO requirements, ymmv

- assuming no query performance issues, an improperly sized data cache/pool can lead to excessive disk reads; IO performance degradation could show up in the form of 'slow' reads or overall slow IOs due to flooding the disk subsystem with excessive read requests

- sysmon data shows tempdb device writes (w/ little/no reads) responsible for 12-30% of IO requests; could probably reduce, if not eliminate, these IOs by a) assigning tempdb to its own appropriately sized cache and b) disabling the HK for the cache

- if, If, IF it turns out that your disk subsystem is 'ok', and your cache/pools are 'ok', and your queries/operations are 'ok', and that you're experiencing contention due to some hot tables/indexes then it may be possible to improve IO performance by spreading your disk IOs across different devices, but this would require a) knowing which tables/indexes are being hit the hardest, b) moving said tables/indexes to different user-defined segments and c) making sure said segments are assigned to different OS/SAN 'disks' (so as to spread disk IO activity across several physical 'disks'); [NOTE: I've seen much higher IO request volumes in sysmon/diskIO output at various clients where there was  little/no IO contention, ie, at this point I have no reason to believe that moving tables/indexes to separate database segments would be of any use]

-----------

There are likely many other possibilities I'm missing/forgetting at this time ... regardless, addressing IO performance issues needs to start with an understanding of where/why the performance is degraded and then figuring out the correct action to improve said IO performance. ("Duh, Mark!" ?)

Hi,

I think Raghu has found the key problem if you read carefully the documentation:

To select a list of files for processing, you can specify placeholders (* ?) for exactly one character in the File Name.

Only one * or one ?.

Good observation!.

Scott,

You assign it to the country under OBBG. But if you are using ZTAXUS and its settings are okay, you can continue using it. However, if you have not had any transactions yet, change that to TAXUSJ.

Also you can change the procedure under OBYZ, click procedure, then select the procedure and double click on Control

Hi Inaki,

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I am using the root node to map the UDF.

Every time when I do change in mapping, I am testing the entire scenario. Please elaborate on your reply, so that I can understand how to proceed.

Hi All,

Is there someone here who knows how to integrate overdue to a job def?

Example:

We have a weekend maintenance and after the release of queue, all the jobs that have been affected by the down time should not run immediately after the up of queue instead it will recalculate to the next run.

Thanks for helping!

Not from the account search, still limited to 1st 35 characters til SAP provides a technical solution.

The free text search if you have Trex enabled is a "kind of" work around (ESH_COCKPIT  connector on accounts and related config )
